Yes or No class surveys are a  great way of introducing young children to data collection. Class surveys are fun and engaging, and provide opportunities for integrated learning across the curriculum.

This resource provides early childhood teachers with suggestions for introducing data collection through the use of Yes or No questions. There are activities, games, and lesson ideas that step children through the learning that is required for them to generate their own research questions, conduct the surveys, and report on their findings.

Class surveys have many benefits for students.  Children feel valued when they share information about themselves. Appreciation for others is developed when they learn more about their classmates, and the classroom community is strengthened. Learning is meaningful and easily transferable to other situations.

Use the resource with the Yes or No – class survey form which can be filled and saved with names of class members.

The surveys are also a great way of sharing information about cultural traditions, including  Do you celebrate Christmas? .
