readilearn – early childhood teaching resources designed to lighten your workload!
The ability to read and follow the steps in a procedure is a very important skill for young children to learn.

Including procedural texts in your classroom literacy program has benefits way beyond simply providing a fun activity.

Much of what we do on a daily basis requires us to follow procedures e.g. cooking, putting together a chair, making a toy model, playing a game, installing an app on an electronic device.

Not all instructions are easy to follow. It is important that students be able to follow instructions presented in both text and pictures. Being able to read and follow instructions to achieve something intended is empowering.

Procedural texts can be easily incorporated into a reading program as an independent or group reading activity.
