Author Spotlight – Renee Hills

Meet Brisbane author Renee Hills.

Renee has worked as a teacher, journalist, editor and publisher. She knew she wanted to write from a young age. She wrote Turtle Love as a creative expression of concern for the planet and hopes that all children will become involved in caring for the planet.

In this interview, she talks about her inspiration for writing Turtle Love and shares highlights of her writing process.  She considers the message of the book to be that, “Humans are having a huge impact on our environment and all species with whom we share the planet. Each of those species has a right to life, to safety, to have a place to call home.  We need to affirm and promote respect for the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part.”

Illustrations by Anna Jacobson help to bring the story to life. Read the interview with Anna here.

Read the story to your children and discuss its messages.
