Hang the Baubles is a lesson for teaching and reviewing repeating patterns.

Children drag and drop the baubles onto a green streamer at the top of each slide.

There are ten slides for making patterns of two colours, ten for patterns of three colours and five for patterns of your own choice.

It is not necessary, nor recommended, to complete all the slides in one session. The patterns will automatically save as you move through the resource. This allows you to review the patterns later in the lesson or in another session. However, you can clear all the patterns and start again whenever you wish.

While the slides suggest how many colours to use in a pattern, it is up to you and the children to decide what type of repeating pattern you will make; for example, AB, ABB, AAB, ABA, ABC, ABBC and so on.

It is also up to you and the children to decide, through discussion, the correctness of each pattern.

It is the discussion, in addition to the doing, that contributes to children’s learning.

Note: While this resource can be accessed on mobile devices, functionality is optimised when accessed on a computer and displayed on an interactive whiteboard.
