Lessons in patterns, addition and colour-matching are ready to teach in this interactive resource Fun with Flowers.

Designed for teaching on the interactive whiteboard, the resource encourages discussion between teacher and students. Feedback is not provided by the resource, thus enabling students to decide on the appropriateness of the responses through discussion and explanation of their thinking processes. It provides opportunities for children to learn from each other as well as from the teacher.

There are three pattern lessons to choose from:

  • Continue the patterns — Children choose the flower to continue the pattern. Patterns include AB, ABC, AABB, AAB, ABB, ABCC.
  • Complete the patterns — Children choose the flower that is missing to complete the patterns. Patterns include AB, ABC, AABB, AAB, ABB, ABCC.
  • Make your own patterns — Children can use any of the flowers to make their own patterns.

There are two addition lessons to choose from:

  • Subitising — Children look at the arrangement of flowers, say how many there are without counting, and describe how they saw the arrangement.
  • Addition stories — Children choose flowers to make up their own addition stories. They type their matching stories on the page.

There are two colour matching activities:

  • Children match flowers to vases of the same colour.
  • Children place flowers in vases so that no flower is in the vase of the same colour.

Answers are not provided by the resource. Children are encouraged to decide on the suitability of responses given. In this way, they will develop the ability to monitor their own learning, rather than rely on an external source for confirmation.

Note: While this resource can be accessed on mobile devices, functionality is optimised when accessed on a computer and displayed on an interactive whiteboard.
