Fill the Aquarium is an interactive resource ready to use on the interactive whiteboard. It supports children in learning to add amounts of money in dollars and cents up to a maximum of $10.00.
Each of the first 10 slides shows a different dollar amount to spend from $1.00 to $10.00, an empty fish bowl and differently priced fish and seaweed to add to it. As the items are placed in the bowl, the total is calculated. Each slide can be used multiple times and in different ways to foster discussion and encourage different combinations and calculations.
The final (eleventh) slide does not do the calculations for you and may be used in other more open-ended ways. It allows for calculations above $10.00 if you wish.
The resource includes suggestions to help get your lessons started. However, you will find many other ways of leading children’s discussions when learning about adding money with dollars and cents up to $10.00 and beyond.
