Literacy | Author Spotlight
Meet Australian author Teena Raffa-Mulligan. Teena is a reader, writer and daydream believer who believes there is magic in every day if you choose to find it. She discovered the wonderful world of storytelling as a child and decided to become a writer at an early age. Teena’s publications for children include poetry, short stories, picture books and chapter books. Her writing life has also included a long career in journalism. She shares her passion for books and writing by presenting talks and workshops to encourage people of all ages to write their own stories.
In this interview, Teena talks about her fun book for young readers called The Apostrophe Posse.
The book is about a group of children who notice that apostrophes are either misplaced or missing from signs around their town. They decide to fix the situation and the adventures that occur while they do so will have children entertained, engaged and inspired. Maybe they’ll even learn a little about the correct placement of apostrophes themselves.
Read the book to the children and discuss Teena’s writing process with them to inspire writing of their own.
